Free and low-cost spay and neuter surgeries are available for individuals in need of assistance. If you need help, please send us an email or call us at 904-425-0005.
When program qualifications are determined, paperwork along with a list of participating veterinarians will be mailed to you. Once required documentation is verified, surgeries may be scheduled. Below is a brief description of our programs. This information will give you an overview of the programs available.
Low-Cost Spay|Neuter Program: Our Low-Cost spay and neuter program is open to anyone. Surgeries for cats, dogs and rabbits are discounted and available through our spay/neuter clinic. For fees and appointments call 904.425.0005
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR): Our TNR program is available to all residents caring for feral, stray, free roaming or community cats. The cost of the surgery is $30.00 per cat and includes rabies and distemper vaccinations, ear tip (to signify that the cat has been fixed), flea and ear mite treatment. To schedule an appointment; call the spay/neuter hotline at 904-425-0005. All cats must arrive to the clinic in a humane trap, no exceptions. Humane traps are available for loan and require a $100 refundable deposit per trap.
Maddies Fund: In October, 2007, Maddie's Fund® approved a $200,000 grant for a two-year targeted spay/neuter project in Duval County. In order to reduce intake and euthanasia in Duval County animal shelters, Maddie's® Spay/Neuter Project is targeting cats in the 32211 zip code. This area has the highest number of feline shelter admissions. It is expected that for each year of the Project, approximately 1,700 spay/neuter surgeries above the baseline number of 392 will be performed on cats from the target zip code. The Targeted Zip Code Spay/Neuter Project for Duval County focuses on owned, stray, and feral cats in the 32211 area, providing a free spay or neuter surgery and Rabies vaccination. Please contact the First Coast No More Homeless Pets Spay/Neuter Hotline at 904.425.0005 or email us at spayneuterhelp@fcnmhp.org for more information about the project and a list of participating veterinary clinics.
Maddie’s Fund®, The Pet Rescue Foundation, (www.maddiesfund.org) is a family foundation funded by Workday and PeopleSoft Founder Dave Duffield and his wife, Cheryl. Maddie's Fund is helping to create a no-kill nation where all healthy and treatable shelter dogs and cats are guaranteed a loving home.
To achieve this goal, Maddie's Fund is investing its resources in building community collaborations where animal welfare organizations come together to develop successful models of lifesaving; in veterinary colleges to help shelter medicine become part of the veterinary curriculum; in private practice veterinarians to encourage greater participation in the animal welfare cause; and in the implementation of national strategies to collect and report shelter statistics.
Maddie’s Fund is named after the Duffield’s beloved Miniature Schnauzer. The foundation makes good on a promise the family made to Maddie to give back to her kind in dollars that which Maddie gave to them in friendship and love. Maddie passed away in 1997, but thanks to this one little dog, abandoned shelter dogs and cats have new opportunities to find loving homes in which they, too, may share in the joy, love and companionship that Dave and Cheryl enjoyed with Maddie.
